THE FIFTH (5TH) DAY
– THURSDAY –
“El-o-him (God) said, `Let the waters bring forth many moving creatures that have life, as well as fowl to fly above the earth in the open sky.” (Genesis 1:20).
Fowl is another name for “bird”. Birds actually came forth from the sea. Does this statement surprise you? If so, read Genesis 1:20 again!
In most species, the male bird is usually more colorful than the female bird. Not all birds sing but many of them do. Birds that sing are called “songbirds”. Some songbirds sing only in the morning while others sing only at night. The Eastern Bluebird is one of the best known songbirds in the United States. To some, New Zealand’s best singer is the Bellbird. The robins found in East Africa are thought by many to be that continent’s best singers. Mountain Bluebirds are sky blue in color and live on the west coast among rolling mountain meadows. Cardinals are bright red birds. In regions where they are found, cardinals can usually be heard singing throughout the year. They do not migrate. The Bluejay is a big, war-like bird that has been known to pester hawks and owls alike. Bluejays even chase cats!
Vultures are very huge birds. They, along with other scavengers eat the remains of dead animals. By doing this, they help to preserve the earth’s eco-system.
ADAM AND EVE
“El-o-him (God) said, `Let us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, over the cattle, over all the earth and over everything that crawls on the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)
Notice how El-o-him (God) made man. “The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nose the breath of life: and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7)
El-o-him (God) made man from the soil. Look at the soil. Pick some up and examine it. This is what God used to make `man’. Did you know that the same elements found in soil are also found in the human body? Interesting, isn’t it?
El-o-him (God) said, `Let us make MAN in OUR image, after OUR likeness.'” Adam had physical features similar to those of his Creator. Notice that God said, “Let US make man…” Again, the word US refers to the “Godhead” — which is none other than The Father (Yah-weh), the Holy Spirit and the Word, which is Yah-shua (Jesus).
Scripture says, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is ONE Lord.” (Deuteronomy 6:4). You may be asking, “How can three be ONE?” Let me ask you a question. Are you one person or several persons? Of course, you’re only one person. Let’s try to understand something about God.
God says that we are made in His image and His likeness. There are three main “parts” to man. We have a MIND. We have WORDS. We have a SPIRIT. Just as man is ONE BEING with a mind, words and spirit, so God is ONE BEING with three divisions — the MIND (Yah-weh), the WORD (Yah-shua), and the HOLY SPIRIT. Does this analogy help?
